Privacy Policy — Scream Lime!
Last updated: 4 October 2026
Scream Lime! is a learning-practice app for children, made by Sam Brightman.
Scream Lime! does not collect any personal information, does not contain advertising or analytics, and never sends your child’s information anywhere.
The short version
Everything your child does in Scream Lime! stays on your device. The app has no user accounts, makes no network connections, and contains no third-party software of any kind. Nobody — including us — can see your child’s name, their answers or their progress.
What the app stores on your device
To work at all, the app saves the following in its own private storage area on your device:
- Each child’s name, exactly as you type it when adding them. It is used only inside the app: to greet the child on the home screen, to show who is playing, and to list the children in the parent area. A first name or a nickname is plenty — the app never checks or needs a real name.
- Practice records: each question shown, the answers given, how long each answer took, whether a hint was shown, and the outcome.
- Progress: which facts are fluent or better, which groups of facts are unlocked, points earned, accumulated screen time, and minutes marked as used.
- Parent settings, including the 4-digit parent PIN. The PIN is a child-proofing gate rather than a security measure; it is stored in the app’s own storage, not in the device keychain, and it protects nothing more sensitive than the settings screen.
This information never leaves your device through the app. There is no account to create, no sign-in, no cloud sync, and no way to share any of it from within the app.
What the app does not do
- No data of any kind is transmitted off the device.
- No advertising, no advertising identifiers, no third-party advertising SDKs.
- No analytics, crash reporting or usage tracking, first-party or third-party.
- No tracking as defined by Apple’s App Tracking Transparency framework. The app never asks for tracking permission, because it never tracks.
- No location, contacts, photos, camera, microphone or health data. The app requests no system permissions at all.
- No purchases, subscriptions or links out of the app.
- No third-party libraries or SDKs are included in the app.
Device backups
The storage area of your device used for app data is included in your device’s backup as it is for all apps. If you have iCloud Backup or local backups turned on, these will include your child’s progress. Those backups are under your control — with iCloud backups governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy — and we have no access to them. You can exclude the app from iCloud backups: in Settings, tap your name, then iCloud → Storage → Backups, choose this device, and turn off Scream Lime!. Apple’s own instructions are in Manage your iCloud storage, in case the menus have moved.
Children’s privacy
Scream Lime! is designed for children and is intended to be set up by a parent or carer. Because the app collects no personal information and transmits nothing, there is nothing for us to obtain consent for, nothing to disclose, and nothing to sell or share. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children — or from anyone — because we do not collect personal information at all.
This position is intended to meet the requirements of the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, the EU GDPR (including Article 8 on children’s consent), and the US Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
Your rights, and deleting the data
Because the information never reaches us, we hold nothing about you or your child and there is nothing for us to look up, export, correct or erase on your behalf. You are in complete control of the data on your device:
- To erase everything, delete the app from your device. All practice records, progress, settings and the children’s names are removed with it. This is immediate and permanent, and cannot be undone. If you have device backups, also remove the relevant backup as described above.
- To change a child’s name, or any setting, use the parent area within the app.
We keep the data for no period of time, because we never receive it. The data on your device is kept until you delete the app.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the “Last updated” date above will change and the new version will be published at the same address. Because the app has no network connection, it cannot notify you of changes; please check this page if you want to be sure.
